Guest Lecture Delivered at PES University, Bengaluru
On Friday, November 2nd, 2018, Prof. Suhas R, Assistant Professor, Department of CTM, DSCE delivered a guest lecture on Railway Engineering, Railway Track & its defects for the undergraduate students of the department of Civil Engineering at PES University. He spoke on the various new technologies used in the current railways, both global as well as Indian scenario. With illustrative examples, case studies & videos, he imparted the knowledge about various track defects and the methods to prevent them. He also discussed methods of treatment of track defects those are followed by Indian Railways and also the railways across the world like Europe, UK, and Russia etc.

As a part of the second day event A Systems Approach to Traffic Safety-2018, Department of CTM & HT organized a invited talk by Dr S SathyaPal, President, National Road Safety Organization and Mr G A Jagadessha, DySP, Lokpal was Chief guest of the event. The invited speaker created road safety awareness for the students with his experience and knowledge in road accidents and its causes. Department of CTM and HT felicitated Mr G A Jagadeesha for his contribution towards road safety by serving the traffic police department for more than 20 years.
Technical Seminar on Perpetual pavement for sustainable development & Low Volume roads
With a vision of attaining Industry Institute Interaction for PG students of Department of CTM and Highway Technology had organized a Technical Seminar on 12th April 2017 at Department Seminar Hall. This was organized in association with Strategic Marketing and Research Team (Channel partner of J. Rettenmaier & Sohne, Germany). Resource persons from the said organization and Speakers of the day Mr. Kishore Kumar (Pavement Design Engineer) and Ms. B S Sandhya (Technical Engineer) delivered talks on following topics.
- Perpetual pavement for sustainable development.
- Low Volume roads.
- Future roles and responsibilities of highway engineers.
- Experience on Stone Matrix asphalt in India.
The target audience for the talk were the PG students (M.Tech in Highway Technology) and pre - final year UG students. The talk was student centric and well appreciated by students. The students also got a way in for taking up internships and research works supposed to be taken up during their upcoming semester.
The department conveys gratitude to the coordinators Mr. Shiva Prasad N, Assistant Professor and Dr. Anjana S, Associate Professor, for making the event possible for the benefit of the students.

Deaprtment has organized technical lecture on “Tall Structures of the world” by Dr. Aravind Bhashyam covering the technical concepts.

Deaprtment has organized technical lecture on "Non Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques" by Mr. Chandrasekhar from Sheetal Engineering Associates.
Guest lecture on "Non Destructive Testing (NDT)":
On 22nd March 2016, a guest lecture was organized by the Department of CTM & HT, DSCE, on Non Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques. The lecture was guided by Mr. Chandrasekhar from Sheetal Engineering Associates. Sheetal Engineering Associates is an NABL Accredited ISO/ IEC 17025: 2005 Laboratory. It is a quality testing laboratory for Civil, Geotechnical and Highway Engineering applications. They are specialized in Non Destructive Testing for buildings and bridges.
The lecture aimed at introducing the novel concept of NDT and display of equipments used for the test. Dr. Maqsood Ahmed, professor in the Department of CTM & HT, briefed the students about the concepts related to NDT and its importance in the present construction industry. This was followed by demonstration of equipments for NDT like Rebound hammer and Ultrasonic pulse velocity testing equipment. Profometer, which is a precise NDT equipment for measuring concrete cover was also displayed.
The students were further given insights as to the need and importance of NDT equipments by subject matter experts in the CTM & HT department. The session was further enlightened by Dr. P. Prakash, Head of the department of CTM & HT by sharing real life experiences in construction industry and various practical applications of NDT. The students were taken for a live demonstration of NDT where they were provided first-hand knowledge on reading and recording observations using the various instruments.
The lecture was a much focused learning and interactive session for the students where all the queries put up by the students were answered to their full satisfaction.
Technical talk on “Tensile Membrane Structures”:
As a part of continuing education program, the Department of Construction Technology Management and Highway Technology conducted a technical talk on the subject area of “Tensile Membrane Structures”.
Mr. Somashekar, Director, Aavicular Tensile Structures Pvt. Ltd. was invited as the chief resource person and subject matter expert for the technical discussion. Aavicular Tensile structures Pvt. Ltd. is a Bengaluru based company incorporated as a Private limited firm in 2011 with the objective of providing quality service in the field of tensile Industry.
The talk was attended by the faculty members, students of the B.E 6th and 8th semesters and M.Tech students in the department. The talk highlighted upon the application of tensile membranes as innovative and sensible design solutions for architects, builders, developers, infrastructure planners and individual clients. The talk lasted for two hours and ended with an interactive session with the students and faculty members who attended the session.
This expert lecture was conducted as part of the department’s sincere efforts to address the present day requirements of the construction industry. The CTM & HT department continues to make efforts for industry interactions in this manner through national seminars, guest talks, industrial training and site visits.
