From the HOD's Desk:
Welcome to the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management.
Set up in 1984 as an interdisciplinary program, the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) at DSCE was one of the unique department to leverage the analytical education of engineers in the training of management professionals.
The department currently has 15 faculty members with 3 Ph.Ds from reputed universities within and outside India, having interests in diverse fields such as quantitative and statistical decision modelling, operations and supply management, manufacturing systems, finance, marketing, economics, analytics, infrastructure, IT, Innovation, Intellectual Property Management and knowledge management.
The department encourages active collaboration with industry as well as other academic institutions. The aim of the department is to continue to excel in its research and training programs, promoting both technical and managerial skills as well as higher ethics and values.
Industrial Engineers are concerned mainly with the design, implementation, and improvement of integrated systems with regard to people, materials, equipment and energy. Industrial engineering is often called a people-oriented discipline, and its applications are widely used in industries, manufacturing, service, commercial and governmental activities. The demand for industrial engineers has remained strong over the past decade and all sectors of the economy require the services of Industrial Engineers. This is achieved here by molding students to succeed in their careers and to occupy the top executive positions in various industries. Participation in Industrial visits, Workshops, Seminars, Technical Talks and Quiz Competitions create a platform to hone leadership qualities.
The curriculum at the department comprises state-of-the-art techniques to plan, design, implement and manage integrated systems of people, material, capital, information and technology. The subjects taught provide a well-rounded coverage of the methods to manage and improve productivity, customer satisfaction and profitability of industrial, information and infrastructural (service) systems. In today's competitive era these methods have rapidly become relevant for engineers in all disciplines.
At the post, graduate level, our Master of Engineering Management (MEM) students come from the mechanical engineering and allied disciplines and a diverse universe of companies to learn business basics and engineering and management tools. Our Master of Engineering Management (MEM) teaches students the skills that drive business success in today's data-driven world. This includes the design of optimized recommendation systems, and the mining of vast quantities of data.
Our PhD students invent and extend basic methods in optimization, stochastic modelling, and engineering statistics, Just in Time, Layout Design and apply them in production, supply chain services, financial engineering, health care, and organizational analysis.
The intervening internships are used for practical project work in industries. Several alumni of both B.E./M.Tech. program have done our department proud in both the corporate world and academia with careers in reputed companies such as BOSCH, TCS, CTS, Capgemini, Flipkart, Amazon, IBM, Musigma, Thales, Textron etc.,
In order to be able to offer state-of-the-art academic programs, the department seeks to collaborate with reputed Industries. This will enable the department to globalize its academic research and teaching paradigm. At present the department has collaborations with SAVE-INVEST, IIIM, Antiz Gaming Solutions, Sagar Automobiles. MSME govt of India.
