In order to benefit the final year BE students, the Department of Civil Engineering in coordination with “Synergy School of Business Skills” had organized an invited talk on "Unleashing Skills that matter for Current & Future Job Opportunities”.
Later Ms. JOBI ZHANITTA D demonstrated Project Management using Primavera. The presentations were clear and were easily understandable by everyone. The talks delivered are believed to enable every engineer to learn, grow and earn. More than 200 students got benefited from the organized talk.

A technical talk and a Demo on the utilization of the E-Tabs software has been arranged on for students of M.Tech, Structural Engineeringof Civil Engineering Department.
The invited speaker Mr. Raghavendra, design Engineer basically could make his time inspite of his busy schedule and accepted the invitation for the talk on the design using E tabs and the problems that he faced in the begging of his career.
Speaker is co-founder of GLOW TECH Structural Consultancy, Previously he worked as a design engineer in RK Associate, later he joined DESIGN TREE Consultants (P) ltd. He took a break in his career of design then started teaching different software’s for the corporate people for a year. Later he joined back as a design engineer in Civil Aid Techno clinic. Right now he emerged as an entrepreneur and started working for his own company.

A guest talk on “CHERISHING YOUR LIFE (Quit-drug Addiction)” was held on Tuesday, 28th February 2017 at Premachandra Sagar Auditorium , for the benefit of all the students.
The talk was given by Dr. Subhashini, Doctor and Educator, Bengaluru, India. She is working in the fields of alternate medications for quick and better heeling with the natural methods.
Dr. Subhashini an alumni of CMC vellore, Dr Subhashini has been practicing medicine for the past 30 years in several slums of Bangalore. In her clinics the patients get to consult doctors and get medicines free. Along with medical care these centers are also used as resource centers. Dr Subhashini was also involved in teaching the visually impaired. She continues to serve the differently abled. She ran classes for slum children for many years. Several kids from her class have graduated from college and hold responsible jobs. She served in the consumer Forum for 10 years and admits that her stint at the court was extremely exciting. She was the president of the Jayanagara resident’s welfare association for 8 years. She is serving on several trusts which are involved in medical and educational charity and has been recipient of Eshwaramba and Kempegowda awards..
She described about Drug addiction as a chronic, often relapsing brain disease that causes compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences to the drug addict and those around the addicted. Drug addiction is a brain disease because the abuse of drugs leads to changes in the structure and function of the brain and body.

A guest talk on “Macro Flood Control Measures & Macro Economic Development of North Bihar flood prone River(Koshi) and 18 Districts”, was held on Thursday, 16th February 2017 at NEB 604, for the benefit of final year B.E. students.
The talk was given by Er. Shashank Shekhar Sinha is former secretary at Bihar State Electricity and Public works department. He has worked under various capacities and has gained immense field experience throughout his career. His contribution towards solving the issues related to Kosi river is remarkable.
The Kosi river is one of the largest tributaries of the Ganges. The river from the Himalayas joins the great plain of northern India in Bihar on its way to the Ganges. Kosi is known as the "sorrow of Bihar", as it has caused widespread human suffering in the past due to flooding and very frequent changes in course, when it flows towards Bihar. In this regard World Bank meeting was held in the year 2004 at Patna and Er. Shashank Shekhar Sinha’s ideas and recommendations were highly appreciated and implemented by Ministry of Water Resources, Govt. of India.
During the talk, he shared his wide knowledge on tackling the Kosi river flood problems and the measures taken to mitigate the same. He enlightened the students of final year B.E. on aspects of ascertaining the possibility of flood occurrence. He explained how GIS, remote sensing and geophysical methods help in collecting the data for flood prediction. The role of various esteemed organizations and government bodies like Ministry of Earth Sciences and Ministry of Energy, towards flood control was highlighted. He gave a brief explanation about the nature of rivers and how devastation can be avoided by controlling flood. He recommended construction of reservoirs, water tanks and other water storage structures.
The students were educated by giving examples of the various hydro-electric power stations across the world. He cited example of Sir.M.Visvesvaraya’s contribution towards Krishnaraja sagar dam. He also gave a note on hydro electric power plants of Canada and USA, where power is generated using water form tanks and rivers. He emphasized about how technology is used in Netherlands to capture energy from sea waves for producing electricity. He gave an overall view of controlling floods at the macro level and subsequently improving the economic development of region.

The event was organised at C.D. Sagar between 10.00 a.m. – 11.00 a.m on 24th Aug 2016
All the seventh semester students and faculty of civil engineering department attended the programme.
The program started with brief Introduction by Mrs. Neethu Urs and welcome speech by Mrs. Dr. K. Asha, HOD Department of Civil Engineering .This was followed by a very Knowledgeable presentation by the guest speaker on the Topic ‘’How to be Industry Ready’’. He talked on various advancements in Civil Engineering and wide Oppurtunities in the Industry for the Students in India and Abroad. After this session the students Interacted with the guest speaker and got clarification on many of their doubts. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Rajashekara, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering.
