Faculty Development Program on “3D Printing Technology”

Four days Faculty Development Program on “3D Printing Technology” was organized in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with Global 3D labs, Additive Manufacturing India Private Limited, Hyderabad from 22nd to 26th July, 2019. The program included lecture session on various 3D printing techniques, Calibration and alignment parameters and techniques, Hands on session 3D modelling techniques with open source software and also Hands on modelling and prototyping of various components.

“MATLAB EXPO 2019”

“MATLAB EXPO 2019” was held at Hotel Radisson Blu, Bangalore on 25th April 2019. The seminar is to bring together engineers and scientists from leading organizations, MathWorks experts, and partners to learn about the latest product capabilities in MATLAB® and Simulink®, exchange ideas, and share successful case studies. Faculties from the department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Ramesha H. and Prof. Kranthi Kumar participated in the expo.

Dr. M.R.Kamesh, Associate Professor from the department of Mechanical Engineering attended the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) Course on “Advanced Refrigeration Systems” from 17th to 22nd December, 2018 organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela and secured B Grade in the course. The course is of 2 credits, which was jointly taught by Dr.Ibrahim Dincer, Professor, University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Ontario, Canada and Dr.S.Murugan, Professor, NIT Rourkela, Odisha.

Dr.R.Keshavamurthy, Head of the department,department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE received “IEI Young Engineers Award 2018-19” from Institution of Engineers, India in recognition for his contributions in the field of Mechanical Engineering on the occasion of 34th National Convention of Mechanical Engineers held at New Delhi during 7th to 8th September, 2018.


Workshop on “3D EXPERIENCE FORUM”

One day Workshop on “3D EXPERIENCE FORUM” was jointly organized by Dassault Systems, at The Leela Palace, Bengaluru on 4th September, 2018. The workshop aims to provide opportunities to faculty members, research scholars and industry persons to enrich their technical skill in the use of 3DEXPERIENCE software for modeling. The Program also intends to develop the knowledge of participants for simulation with software in the relevant field for inculcating learning values in guiding and monitoring their progress.


Demo on FEAST- Finite Element Analysis software

A demonstration of FEAST-Finite Element Analysis software(developed by ISRO) was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 30th August, 2018. It was demonstrated by Mr.Venkatakrishnan and Mr.Vishak from Intercad systems.


Faculty development program on “Introduction to CATIA Design Tool”

Faculty development program on “Introduction to CATIA Design Tool” was held from 9th July, 2018 to 16th July 2018 at Dayananda Sagar University in association with dessault systems. Part Modelling and Assembly with the help of CATIA 3D EXPERIENCE platfrom was the main focus of the program.

FDP on Emerging trends in Mechanical Engineering Science

Five days Faculty development Program on “Emerging trends in Mechanical Engineering Science” was organised by the department of Mechanical Engineering from 18th to 22nd June, 2018. Shri Galiswamy was invited as a guest of honour for the event. The event was presided over by Dr.H.Ramakrishna, Vice Principal, DSCE, Dr.D.R.RameshBabu,Vice Principal, DSCE and Dr.R.Keshavamurthy, Head of the department, Mechanical Engineering, DSCE.

The following speakers were invited to conduct the faculty development program – Dr.H.V.Ravindra, Professor & Vice Principal, PES, Mandya, Mr.Madhusudhan, Mr.Chetan Rajdev & Mr. Sandeep, M/s Bosch Rexroth, Mr.Guru Shankar, NTTF, Bangalore.

FDP on Recent Advances in Materials, Manufacturing and Sustainability” RAMMS 2018

Faculty development program on “Recent Advances in Materials, Manufacturing and Sustainability” RAMMS 2018 was jointly organised by the department of Mechanical Engineering and department of Chemistry on 2nd and 3rd of Feb, 2018. The program was co-sponsored by M/S DPK Engineers Private Limited, Bangalore. The keynote address was given by Dr. P. Sriram, Chairman, Rapsri Industries Pvt. Ltd. The speakers invited during the event were Dr.Dinesh Rangappa, Chairman, Department of Nanotechnology, VTU, Dr.B.H.M.Darukesha, Senior Scientist, ISRO, Dr.K.G.Satyanarayana, Consulting Research Scientist & Honorary Professor, Poornapragna Institute of Scientific Research, Bangalore and also Retired Scientist, RRL, Trivandrum, CSIR, India and Dr.Manjunath Pattabi, Chairman-Material Science, Dept of Material Science, Mangalore University. Around 60 members participated in the event. An industrial visit was organised to PRIMAX Plastics Private Limited on the second day of the event.

Faculties from the department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the Imtex 2018(Indian Metal Cutting Machine Tool Exhibition) being held on 30th January at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) in Bangalore, India.

Student Centric

Smart India Hackathon Hardware Edition

Students from various branches of Engineering from DSCE participated in “Smart India Hackathon Hardware Edition” organized by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) and MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) that took place in 18 nodal centers across India. 250 teams were shortlisted to participate in the “Grand Finale” of the world’s biggest Hackathon. The nodal centre allotted to our student team was Chennai where they competed against 16 teams. After working on the prototype, market analysis, final design and marketing the product for five Days and working for over 110 hours out of the 120 hours allotted to them, they successfully completed it and bagged first place. The team “Arcis” also won one Lakh rupees cash prize.

Certified Engineering Analyst Program Level-1

Department of Mechanical Engineering organised “Certified Engineering Analyst Program Level” in collaboration with Altair Business Solutions Private Ltd. for under Graduate and Post Graduate students. The program was conducted from 11th Feb, 2019 to 15th March, 2019. At the end of the course qualified/ eligible students were certified as ‘Engineering Analyst’ – (From DSCE and Altair Business Solutions Private Ltd). The training session was conducted by Dr.Ramesha H., Prof.S.B.Manjunath, Prof. Anand Badigar, Prof. Madhava murthy.

Workshop on 3D printing was organised in the department of Mechanical Engineering in association with M/s Machenn Innovations from 24th to 27th April, 2019. The resource person for the workshop session was Mr. Vishnu. T.U. Founder, M/s Machenn Innovations. The program was co-ordinated by Dr. Shanmuganathan and Prof. Madhusudhan M.

Workshop on Autodesk FUSION 360 was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering for fourth and sixth semester students on 1st and 2nd of April, 2019. The resource person for the event was Mr.Anand Pujari, Autodesk Inc. The theme for the workshop was “Generative Design”. It was a interactive hands-on session where the students learnt the generative designs using Autodesk Fusion tool.

Three days workshop on PLC, SCADA and VFD was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 8th, 9th and 10th March, 2019. The Workshop involved hands-on practice session on PLC, SCADA platform. The workshop was conducted by Mr.Dhanus Kodi C, Application Engineer, (Axis Global Institute of Industrial Training, AGIIT, Bairam SunilApplication Engineer, AGIIT. Awareness on Importance of Modelling and Analysis software

Awareness program on the importance of Modelling and Analysis software for Mechanical Engineering students was organised in the department of Mechanical Engineering for the pre final year students on 12th March, 2019. Mr. Naveen and Ms. Ramya from Educadd Center, Jayanagar educated the students about various softwares and also highlighted about the placement opputunities.

Human Powered Vehicle Challenge

Human Powered Vehicle designed and developed by students from various branches of Engineering of DSCE (Orion Racers) got 4th rank out of 1673 teams across asia in ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge (HPVC) 2019 held at Vellore Institute of Technology. The faculty adviser for the team was Dr. Narasimhe Gowda, professor from the department of Mechanical Engineering.

PLASMA 2018 – “Student Achievement”

Mr. Malav Tackar, Mr. Aditya S.C., Mr. Nikhil Vajramatti and Mr. Aakash Hegde, Students from the department of Mechanical Engineering, participated in PLASMA- 2018, technical event conducted at JNNCE, Shimoga and bagged prize in various events. The team won 2nd place in “Fastest line follower”, 2nd place in “Project Preparation” for the project titled “Intelligent Roofing System to increase intensity of natural light” and 2nd place in “Technical paper presentation” for the project titled “Intelligent Roofing System to increase intensity of natural light”.

NASA Space Apps Challenge-Hackathon

Students from Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in NASA Space Apps Challenge-Hackathon organised by DSU in association with NASA and the team won recognition award and suggested for further improvement under the NASA mentorship. The event was conducted on 20th and 21st of October, 2018. The participants were Prithvi Prasad, Prathveraj Shetty, Shylesh S.K., Rajesh Ayeli and G. Karthik.

Autodesk Fusion 360 Training session

Training session using “Autodesk Fusion 360” software was conducted in the department of Mechanical Engineering from 1st October, 2018 to 9th October, 2018. The students were given hands-on practice with the software. The session was conducted by various student experts who were from pre final year and final year studying in department of Mechanical Engineering and Automobile Engineering. The students were taught how to create components using various Fusion 360 commands and how to render the components and upload it to fusion gallery.


Orientation Program on Communication Skills

Students of third semester Mechanical Engineering were given an orientation program on “Communication skills” by final year students of Mechanical Engineering on 29th September, 2018.The final year students were Mr.AdityaMitra, Ashley Lobo and Dwaipayan Roy Chowdhury.


Autodesk Event-“AU INDIA 2018”

Seventh semester students from department of Mechanical Engineering,Mr.Prithvi Raj Shetty and Mr. Prithvi Prasad participated in “AU INDIA 2018” event organised by Autodesk Inc India in New delhi on 10th and 11th of September, 2018. They displayed their Go-Kart Model in the event. This event aims at developing theoretical and practical knowledge regarding design, analysis, fabrication, management and the art of racing.

Team “Ironknights” comprising of Final year students from department of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering participated in the SKDC – ‘Student Kart Design Competition’ at Hyderabad from 17th to 20th September, 2018 and the team bagged runner up position for endurance and fuel economy incorporated in their car design.

Student achievement- TechExpo

Malav Thacker and Anand Gautam, members of Center For Advanced Robotics, Mechanical Engineering department, DSCE took part in TechExpo organized by IIT Guwahati in the technical fest - Techniche 2018 under the guidance of Prof. Parveen D. Jadhav department of Mechanical Engg, DSCE. More than 100 students participated in it from all over the country with their innovative ideas and projects. We are proud to announce that our students bagged 1st Runner up in TechExpo for “Intelligent Roofing Panel System-To maximize Day-light Intensity” and were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

Industry Visit to AkshayaPatra - Mass food preparation unit

Students from the department of Mechanical Engineering were taken for the visit toMass food preparation unit-Akshayapatra at ISKON on 21st and 24th of August, 2018. It houses the centralised kitchens which are large kitchen units that have the capacity to typically cook up to 100,000 meals. They are automated and thus ensure hygiene during the cooking processes. Students were educated about the traditional cooking using Hitech equipment’s, automated units and at the same time maintaining hygiene.


Internship Program

The Centre for Advanced Robotics conducted an internship program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, DayanandaSagar College of Engineering from 2nd July to 3rd August 2018 on “Auto Adjusting and Positioning of Light Sensitive Roof Panel to Maximize Day-Light in Buildings”.Students from various branches of Engineering participated in it and worked enthusiastically towards improving the project.

During the Internship program, a training session was conducted by Head of Mechanical Engineering department, Dr. R. Keshava Murthy on "How to make technical papers and it's importance."

Industrial visit to GKVK, Gandhi Krushi Vignana Kendra, Hebbal was arranged in the department of Mechanical Engineering. Our 6th semester Mechanical Engineering students were taken for the visit on 4th April, 2018. The visit was co-ordinated by Dr. Narasimhe Gowda and Prof. Kishore Kumar.

Student Achievement- CISCO-RVCE IDEATHON

Student Team (Mr.Shreyanshu, Mr.Irfan S., Mr.Prashanth, Mr.Nikhil Agarwal) guided by Prof. Praveen D. Jadhav from the Department of Mechanical Engineering “Robotics club” won First place at CISCO-RVCE IDEATHON on “Intelligent Transportation Systems – For a Safer, Smarter and Sustainable Transportation” during 9th to 10th Feb 2018 held at RVCE, Bangalore.

Robotic “ARDUINO” Workshop was organised by the department of Mechanical Engineering “Robotics club” on 3rd and 4th Feb 2018 & on 10th and 11th Feb 2018. This workshop was certified by “All India Council for Robotics and Automation” and “Department of Science and Technology Government of India” in association with “Times World”.

Student Achievement-International Karate Championship

Suhan S. Joldal, student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering bagged 3rd place and won Bronze medal in the “All Styles Invitational 2nd International Karate Championship”.

Student Achievement- CZC RENEWABLE ENERGY INNOVATION CONTEST

Student Team ( Mr.Kapil Singh, Mr.Gurupreeet Singh, Mr.Karan Arcot, Mr.Kashish Agarwal ) guided by Prof. Praveen D. Jadhav from the Department of Mechanical Engineering “Robotics club” were awarded and certified with “Certificate of Innovation and excellence” for their project “Auto Adjusting Roof Panels Maximizing Day Lighting”. This project was recognised for innovation excellence and potential for creating business value in CZC Renewable Energy Innovation Contest conducted by IIT Madras and IWMA in collaboration with US Consulate General Chennai and Polaris, a Virtusa Company.

Student Achievement-“Go Kart Design Challenge”

Students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the “Go Kart Design Challenge” at Coimbatore which started from Monday on 12th February 2018. Go Kart Design Challenge is a contest formulated to enhance the approach of students practicing Engineering and Diploma courses. This event is fundamentally all about designing and fabricating a Go Kart at very low expenditure. The team won runner up prize.

Demonstration program on CATIA Software

A demonstration program on capabilities of CATIA software was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 27th November, 2017. The demonstration covered the requirements of design and manufacturing aspects of machine components, such as Modelling, Detailing, Assembly features, Animation, Optimization etc. The demo and presentation was given by Mr.Goutham S.R., Application Engineer, EDS Technologies.

Demonstration program on ANSA Software

A demonstration program on capabilities of ANSA software was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 28th November, 2017. The demonstration covered the requirements of design and analysis aspects of machine components. The demo and presentation was given by Mr. Nagananda Gopalakrishna, Technical Specialist, BETA Simulation Solutions.

Workshop on Autodesk Innovative Furniture Design

Autodesk innovative furniture design workshop was a three days program held at DSU from 7th to 9th December 2017. The program aimed at helping the students in learning wood working and come up with innovative furniture design. 5th and 7th Semester students of Mechanical Engineering were participated for 3 days in the workshop.

“AutoDesk University India and SAARC 2017”

The “AU India and SAARC 2017” by Autodesk University was held in the month of 14th December, 2017 held in Hotel Lalit Ashok at Bangalore which was a great platform intended to connect academia with industry and also provide opportunity to the students to showcase their innovations. Mega Alumni Meet-2017

Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Alumni association organized a “Mega Alumni Meet-2017” on 25th December, 2017 at Premachandra Sagar Auditorium. The guests of honor invited at the event were Y.A.Narayana swamy, MLA, Hebbal, Dr.Sangappa S.B., National Executive Council Member, ISTE, New Delhi, Mr.Anil Kumar Halnur Chandrashekar, Senior specialist, Hawlett Packard and the event was presided by Shri Galiswamy, Secretary, DSI. Dr.C.P.S.Prakash, Principal, DSCE welcomed the gathering.

6-sigma Green Belt Certification Program

Two days workshop was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE on the 6 Sigma Green Belt Certification Program. This workshop was organised on 7th and 8th of September 2017. The inaugural function of the workshop was presided by Dr. C.P.S. Prakash, Principal, DSCE, Dr. H. Ramakrishna, Vice Principal, DSCE and Dr. Keshavamurthy R., Head of the Mechanical Department, DSCE. The students were trained by Mr. G.N. Shridhar, Quality Consultant, Gorur Consultancy and Mr. Vasuki BK, Trainer i-sol, Solution by Design.

Today 6-Sigma is delivering business excellence, higher customer satisfaction, and superior profits by dramatically improving every process in an enterprise, whether financial, operational or production. 6-Sigma has become an important part of a wide spectrum of industries, from health care to insurance to telecommunications to software and even in field of sports.

Workshop on “Additive Manufacturing”

Two days workshop on “Additive Manufacturing” was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 31st August and 1st September 2017. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr.Keshavamurthy, HOD and Mr.Shridhar, Resourse person, The Info Cloud, Bangalore.

3D Printing also known as Additive Manufacturing (AM), refers to various Process used to synthesize a three-dimensional object. In 3D Printing, successive layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object. These objects can be of almost any shapes are produced from a 3D Model.

The program included both theory and practical session and students were provided with hands on experience on 3d printing. Students were divided into group of four and each batch printed a 3D model.

WORKSHOP on “AUTODESK FUSION-360”

Workshop on Autodesk Fusion 360 was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 17th August 2017. Anand Geethgovindhan, Resourse Person, Autodesk Inc trained the students who had basic exposure to Autodesk Fusion 360 software in the workshop conducted earlier and this workshop mainly focused more on the higher level complex designs using new tools and the theme topic for design session was “Design For Medical Innovation”. The training session was assisted by our student experts. About 80 students took part in the training session.

Kalam Innovation Ecosystem Award :

Final year students of Department of Mechanical Engineering Kapil Singh, Karan Arcot, Gurpreet Singh and Kashish Agarwal participated at the most awaited event of the year “Kalam Innovation Ecosystem Award” which was held on 8th April, 2017 at Sairam Engineering College Campus, Chennai. The Team bagged the trophy for 1st place and received cash award of One Lac rupees for their idea titled- “Auto adjusting and positioning of light-sensitive roof panels to maximize day-lighting in buildings”.

Autodesk 3D Modelling Workshop @DSCE :

Workshop on Autodesk FUSION 360 was held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 6th and 7th April, 2017. Students were given hands on practice using FUSION 360 software. The students were trained by the student experts Mr. Shubham Mittal and Mr.Suraj A.S. This workshop was based on the theme ‘Audio Technology’. The students were trained for the ‘Design Now’ competition which was held from 10th to 12th April 2017 at National level Technical Symposium ‘Mahayanthra’ @ DSCE.

MAGNOVITE v6.0

Our students from Robotics club participated in various ‘Robotics and Technical Events’ and bagged the trophy for ‘Best performing college’ in MAGNOVITE v6.0 – The annual techno cultural fest organized by the faculty of Engineering, Kengeri, christ university campus, Bangalore held on 2nd, 3rd and 4th March 2017.

AUTODESK Design Challenge: Panorama Event-2017 @ Taiwan:

Mr. Shubham Mittal and Mr. Suraj A.S. Students of Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in “panorama-2017”, Autodesk Design Challenge Event held at Taipe, Taiwan from 24th March to 28th March 2017.

Industrial visit :

Industrial visit to M/S JCR drillsol was arranged in the department of Mechanical Engineering for 2ndsem M.Tech CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) students on 1st March, 2017. This industrial visit was conducted as a part of MOU signed with M/S JCR Drill Sol Pvt. Ltd.

Workshop on "3D printing” :

Workshop on 3D printing was conducted in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with ‘The Infocloud’ from 13th to 16th March 2017. The program was inaugurated by Dr.C.P.S Prakash, Principal, DSCE and Dr.Keshavamurthy R., Head of the department. The training session was conducted by Mr.Vijay and Mr.Sridhar.

 

Interaction with Rapsri Chairman

Dr. P. Sriram, Chairman of M/s. Rapsri Engineering, Harohalli, KanakapuraTaluk visited the department of Mechanical Engineering on 22nd March, 2017.The purpose of this meeting was to discuss curriculum design for autonomous course and the status of the project on “Study of the Characteristics of Cast Manganese Bronzes with Silicon additions” which was submitted to Naval Research Board (NRB) as a proposal for Grant-in-Aid by NRB.

Workshop on “Career guidance and sustainability issues in society” :

The workshop on “Career guidance and sustainability issues in society” was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 3rd March, 2017. The workshop was conducted by Mr.Ram kumar, General Manager, TIME and Mr.Srinivas. The highlights of the workshop are the problems faced by professionals, moral and ethical issues in corporate and as individuals effective teamwork and leadership qualities, communication skills required in organizations, management and financial issues required for working organization. All this topics were illustrated through case studies and students were highlighted about the applications of all these concepts in the industries.

Workshop on Autodesk Fusion-360:

Four days workshop on Autodesk Fusion was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering from 16/01/2017 to 19/01/2017 for 4th semester students. This workshop mainly focused on “Accessory designs”. The training was conducted by Mr. Anandageetha Govindan and his team included Mr.Suraj and Mr. Shivakumar.

Workshop on Robotics:

Robotics workshop was organized on 5th and 6th Nov, 2016 under the banner of ROBOCLUB, Mechanical Department in Association with All India Council for Robotics & Automation (AICRA), New Delhi. Over 60 students from various department participated in the workshop. A team of 15 students has been selected for International Robotic League (IRL) 2017 which is to be held in New Delhi from 12th to 15th Jan, 2017.

 

 

  • Our 7th semester students Kapil Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Karan Arcot and Karan Singh, bagged FIRST PRIZE and the team won cash prize of Rs 4000 in the event “BOT WARS” organised by BMS College of Engineering on 24th September 2016.

  • Workshop on Autodesk Fusion:

    Two days’ workshop on “Autodesk Fusion” was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 16th and 17th September 2016 for 3rd semester students. Mr. Anand Geethgovindhan, from M/s Autodesk Inc. trained the students.

  • Anjappa, student of 5th semester bagged 4 awards namely “Silver award” in “7th Regional Convention on Quality Concepts”, special award in “Project exhibition AVISHKARA”, “Tantrix 2k16 award” from Dr. Ambedkar Institute Technology for the project entitled “ Multi operational cutting tool for conventional lathe working”.

    He bagged “FIRST PRIZE” for “Business planning and problem solving” at the event “Sand hill angels” which is part of “SILICONMANIA” organised by Dayananda Sagar Entrepreneurship research and business incubation Foundation [DERBI] 2015.

    He was honored as “Global Young Entrepreneur 2015” from “Network for Training Entrepreneurship” Newyork, USA [NFTE] and also was awarded with “Global Entrepreneurship award”.

  • Sharath Naik, student of 5th semester bagged FIRST PRIZE in “Design for space challenge” which was organised by Autodesk in association with NASA. In this competition, the student had to design a ‘CubeSat’ that will help in securing dead satellite, it was an initiative to reduce space junk.

  • SRISHTI 2016:

    Students from Department of Mechanical Engineering represented our college at SRISHTI 2016 (State level project exhibition and competition) organized by ABVP (Karnataka) held at CMR Institute of Technology, Bengaluru on 8th May, 2016. The team bagged the First Place and received cash prize and momento as a token of appreciation. The Team members were Kapil Singh, Karan Arcot, Noumaan Shariff.

  • 8th Mile Fest :

    Our 6th semester students participated in the 8th mile fest and presented their project e-cart in the event “THE PUSHKART” held at R. V. College of Engineering on 21st Feb, 2016. The team members were Kapil Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Karan Arcot, Kashish Agarwal, Md. Minhaj Noori. The team secured First Place and received the cash prize and certificate of appreciation.

  • ROBO-RIKISHI:

    Our 6th semester students won First Place in the “ROBO-RIKISHI”, State level robot wrestling competition held at The National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru on 29th April, 2016. The team members were Kapil Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Karan Arcot, Kashish Agarwal, Md. Minhaj Noori.

  • NATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION:

    National Design Competition was held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 13th Feb, 2016 for 4th and 6th semester students. The topic was to create the different views of the given drawing with 5:1 scale. The objective of the competition was to check the advanced drawing skill and knowledge of the students apart from academics and to identify the right talents who use the right concept while designing a particular part.
