    International Conference on Innovations in Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology

    Dr. R Keshavamurthy, Professor and HOD, Department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE, participated in “International Conference on Innovations in Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology 2019”, Bangkok, Thailand, held on Nov 16-17, 2019. The presented two research papers received best papers awards in the conference chaired by Prof. Yuanhua Lin, Southwest Petroleum University, Sichuan, China. Research papers were presented from numerous countries across the globe such as China, Taiwan, Thailand, Muscat, Japan and so on. Insights to various research approaches and emerging technologies were well discussed across the domain.

    A three day workshop on Six Sigma – Green Belt Program

    About Six Sigma :

    Six Sigma strategies seek to improve the quality of the output of a process by identifying and removing the causes of defects and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. It uses a set of quality management methods, mainly empirical, statistical methods, and creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization who are experts in these methods. Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined sequence of steps and has specific value targets, for example: reduce process cycle time, reduce pollution, reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and increase profits.

    Workshop on Machine Learning using Python

    A 3 days workshop on ML using Python was conducted by Department of Mechanical Engineering by Mr. Raghavendra H M, Data Scientist, Datalorelabs, on 8th, 9th, 10th November, 2019 at Dayanandasagar College of Engineering.

    More than 35 students had participated in the workshop; the objective of workshop was to train students on basic of Data science using python and to develop their Machine Learning algorithm skills.

    The event was coordinated by Dr.M.R.Kamesh, Coordinator of the Thermal Module and the faculty members of the Thermal Module Group of the Mechanical Engineering Department.

    A demonstration session on Visual-CFD for OPEN FOAM SOLVER (CFD)

    A demonstration session on Visual-CFD for OPEN FOAM SOLVER (CFD) was held on 5-11-2019 @ 11:30AM in Room No: MS1 of New Mechanical Engineering Block for 5th semester students and the faculty members of thermal module by Mr.C.P.Venkateshwaran, Founder & CEO, Parkati Tech (A unit of Parkati Enterprises), Bangalore in association with Department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE.

    Introduction about OPEN FOAM SOLVER its importance in solving continuum mechanics problems, most prominently including computational fluid dynamics was discussed. The role of Visual-CFD, its user interface created for OPEN FOAM was very well explained. Few case studies regarding topics on Fluid Mechanics and Turbo Machines were explained to the audience.

    The event was coordinated by Dr.M.R.Kamesh, Coordinator of the Thermal Module and the faculty members of the Thermal Module Group of the Mechanical Engineering Department.

  • Stratasys India 3D Printing Forum

    Stratasys India 3D Printing Forum.

    The most awaited additive manufacturing conference in India organized by Stratasys India happened on 13th November 2019, at Hotel Conrad, Bengaluru. It was a 3rd Edition of the Stratasys India User Forum called 3DPF.

    Dr Kailash Chandra Panda, Profess and Dr Venkatesh M K, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering attended the forum. It was all about to learn how to use 3D technologies to reduce time to market, produce stronger and lighter parts, improve efficiency, reduce waste and cost, and create complex geometries. There were hundreds of attendees including Industry experts. Many knowledgeable speakers including Shri Ganapati Patel, Padmashri awardee, Guy Yair, EVP, Stratasys, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Stratasys, Ben Klein, Stratasys, Saurabh Singh, Maruthi Suzuki and many others delivered the technical talks and shared their experiences.

    It was very useful program which helped attendees to learn and know about the latest and upcoming technology in the mechanical industry.

At 11.30 Bhupesh Lall Senior Director & Head - Business Strategy & Marketing Autodesk APAC & Japan spoke on the topic Future of Design & Manufacturing. There was a Exhibition hall where there was a provision for exhibiting projects by various Institutes and companies. Even our college students Mr.Prithvi and his team from Mechanical and Automobile Department had exhibited their projects on Design and fabrication of Drone Chassis using Generative Design” Postlunch keynote sessions were divided based on the specialization like design & manufacturing, media & entertainment industries architecture and construction.     Prof. Mohandas A.N., Assistant Professor from the department of Mechanical Engineering and his team of final year Mechanical Engineering students presented a review paper on “Problems faced by hydrogen and acetylene fuelled automotive engines and its resolving techniques” in the 1st international conference on Emerging Trends in Engineering, Innovative science and Management (ICETEISM - 2019) in association with Technical Institute of Engineers on 18th May, 2019 held at East West Institute of Technology. The technical paper was selected as the “Best Paper” and also the team won “Best of best paper award”.

    INDUSTRIAL VISIT-RAPSRI INDUSTRY:

    The Department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE organized a one-day industrial visit to RAPSRI Industry, Bangalore on 24/04/2019. The students of VI th semester accompanied by four staff members from mechanical department – (In total 42 members) attended the industrial visit. RAPSRI industry established as a foundry and machine shop to make bronze bushings for Automotive OEM’s slowly collaborated with international sectors developed various cast products with a commitment towards conformance to cast product and process.

    A Parent-Teacher Meeting was organized in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 23rd March, 2019.The main objective of conducting the meetwas to the keep the parentsinformed about the areas their wards are excelling in and to give suggestions of how to improve upon their ward’s performance, also to discuss issues faced by students and to take up the suggestions/feedback given by the parents. The meeting highlighted the working of Examination section of Autonomous Institution,industrial visit activity in the department,the training conducted by Autodesk in the department,the upcoming National level Technical Symposium activity in the department.     VTU First Rank:

    Mr. Supreeth (Batch 2014-2018) from the department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE secured VTU 1st Rank in BE Mechanical Engineering Program. He will be awarded with VTU Gold medal along with “Murthy’s Medal of Excellence”, “Sri Sanjay Keshavrao Agarked Memorial Gold Medal”, “Jyothi Gold Medal” , “ Sri Leo Muthu – Founder Sairam Institutions Gold Medal” in the forth-coming VTU 18th Annual Convocation 2019 on 18th March, 2019 which will be held at VTU, Belagavi.

    Autodesk Fusion-360 Traning program:

    Four days Autodesk Fusion-360 training program on “ Modelling of Mechanisms and Motion Study” for the fouth semester Mechanical Engineering students was conducted by the Autodesk Student experts from pre-final Mechanical Engineering stream. The training program started on 12th March, 2019 and will continue till 15th March, 2019. The Autodesk student experts who handle the training sessions are Mr. Hemanth C., Mr. Punith R., Mr. Karthik G. and Mr. Pavan R. Shanbhag from sixth semester Mechanical Engineering stream.

  • Workshop on Quadcopter

    Workshop on Quadcopter:

    Workshop on quad copter was organised in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with ‘skyfi labs’ on 8th and 9th February, 2019. This workshop event was a hands-on session where the students were allowed to build, design and test quadcopter right from scratch. All participants received certificate of completion and the top performers received distinction certificate. The workshop was open to students of all the branch of engineering. Around 160 students participated from various branches of Engineering. The event was co-ordinated by Dr.Narasimhe Gowda, professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

    Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “AUTODESK FUSION-360” (Hands on Session) was Organized by department of Mechanical Engineering and department of Automobile Engineering in association with AUTODESK India Inc., from December 19th to 23rd, 2018.     Robotic workshop “ARDU-BOT” was held in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 17th and 18th November, 2018. The workshop included various modules such as – Basics of Arduino, Introduction to IOT, line follower, Projects related to blue tooth, IR and ultrasonic sensors.     Workshop on MATLAB and Simulink was organised in the department of Mechanical Engineering on 22nd Oct, 2018 in C.D.Sagar Hall. The workshop focussed on the contents such as Suspension modelling, Vehicle modelling, Battery modelling and management, Powertrain modelling, Introduction to Embedded Coder. The guest Speakers for the event were: Dr.Veer Alakshendra, Student Competition Technical Evangelist, Mr. Abhishek Roy, Application Engineer and Mrs. Maitreyee Mordekar, Student Competition Technical Evangelist. Apart from particpants from our college there were 122 Participants from Various colleges which include RVCE, Dr.AIT, BMSCE, Amritha University, JSSATE.

    Two days workshop on “Research Methodology and presentation skills” was organised at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering on 18th and 19th of November 2017.     Avishkara”, student Project Exhibition-2017 was held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 30th May, 2017. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr.Shridhar Murthy, Vice President, M/S JCR Drillsol, Peenya in the presence of Dr.Keshavamurthy R., Head of the Department.

    Fifty two projects were exhibited from final year students of Mechanical Engineering. Mr.Shridhar Murthy and Dr.Shekar, professor, department of Automobile Engineering were the juries to identify best projects under following categories.

    1. Best Project Award
    2. Corporate Social Responsibility Project
    3. Best Innovative Project
    4. Best presentation

    The projects that bagged the trophy and award are

    1. “Design and Fabrication of Automatic Stair Climbing Wheelchair” under the category “Corporate Social Responsibility project”.
    2. “Design and Fabrication of Intelligent Braking System” under the category of “Innovative project”.
    3. “Design and Analysis of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle” under the category of “Best Presentation Project”.
    4. “Design and Fabrication of Coconut De-husker and Husk Grinder” under the category of “Innovative Project”.

    Inauguration of Center for Proficiency Development: (Certification Course on Engineering Analysis Level-1: Batch 1)

    Center for Proficiency development was inaugurated in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 27th April, 2017. The center was inaugurated by Dr. C.P.S.Prakash, Principal, DSCE in the presence of Dr. H. Rama Krishna, Vice Principal, Dr.R.Keshavamurthy, HOD, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Narasimhe Gowda, Prof. Ramesh and the other faculties of the department.

    The Principal addressed the gathering regarding the collaboration made with Altair Business Solutions to setup a proficiency centre at the institution level which aims at inhibiting the skills in the students to improve their employability and bridging the gap between Industry and Academia.

    Dr.Keshavamurthy R., Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering took the opportunity to address the students regarding the importance of the Proficiency Centre, he stressed on the fact that the training aims at enhancing the skillsets of the students to make them ‘Industry Ready’. He also explained that the curriculum designed incorporates both Theory as well as Practical sessions each of duration 60 hours and the trainers will be the experts in the field both from Altair Business Solutions and professors from the department.

    Prof. Ramesh, Manager, Center for Proficiency development (CPD), explained the curriculum designed for the training sessions and elaborated on technical aspects of it.

    Torque-6.0:

    Department of Mechanical Engineering organized inter-college Technical Fest from 10th to 12th April, 2017 for aspirants participating from various Engineering colleges with a very high competitive spirit to participate and with the strong determination to include their achievements & accomplishments in their resumes. Torque 6.0 aims to provide a platform for the students to showcase, improve and experience the talent, technical skills and competitiveness respectively.The event was successful enough to attract as many as 400 registrations for a three day fest which included all the events.

    The Fest executed a total of 10 events in 3 categories planned and organized to the best of quality. Focusing on the types of events to be included in the Fest was done by Fest coordinators keeping the interest and need of Engineering students.

    The department of Mechanical Engineering entered into a memorandum of understanding with Altair Business solutions on 24th March, 2017. As a part of MoU, it is proposed to initiate Proficiency Development Certification Course in the field of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE).

    Autodesk "Design Now"- Modelling Competition:

    M/S Autodesk, India conducted "Design Now"- A modelling competition, on 20th and 21st of October, 2016 in the department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE. The theme was to design a 'CAR BODY' or 'JIGS & FIXTURES FOR MILLING' using Autodesk Fusion 360. The event was inaugurated by Dr. C.P.S.Prakash, Principal, DSCE. Mr. Sharath Naik who secured 1st position in “Design for space challenge” global competition which was organised by Autodesk in association with NASA was felicitated by Principal, DSCE. The top five best designs received cash prize and certificate of recognition. Over 100 students from 3rd and 5th semester were participated in the competition. The event was co-ordinated by Mr. Krantikumar and Mr. Praveen D. Jadhav.

    Department of Mechanical Engineering DSCE conducted an inter college National Level quiz competition program (AQUEST) on 20th October, 2016 in association with ‘The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers’ (ISHRAE), Bangalore Chapter and M/S HITACHI. The program was presided by Dr. C.P.S Prakash, Principal, DSCE. Dr. R. Keshavamurthy, HOD, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Venkatesh, ISHRAE office Administrator and Mr. Anish Kumar Sinha, Program coordinator ISHRAE Bangalore chapter were present in the event. Over 40 students from various institutions participated in the competition. The Quiz program was coordinated by Mr. Jacob John, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE (ISHRAE Department Coordinator) and Mr. Arun Arogya Swamy, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE.

    Industrial visit to M/s PreTech Plast Pvt. Ltd:

    An industrial visit to M/s PreTech Plast Pvt. Ltd, Bommasandra, Jigani, Bangalore was organised on 10th August, 2016. About 45 students of Mechanical Engineering 7th semester participated. This was a part of the entrepreneurship awareness camp from 8th to 10th August, 2016 with the assistance of EDI and NSTEDB, Govt of India.

    The industry is a MSME and they manufacture thermoset and thermoplast plastic components such as auto components, aircraft components and medical application components, power tool holders, pump holders etc. The students were briefed about the company profile, machines used, applications and the problems faced by entrepreneurs as well.

    Paper Presentation by Students in Mahayathra - 2016:

    Students from 6th semester presented their technical paper on “Design and fabrication of automatic stair climbing wheel chair” and was selected as the Best Paper in Mahayantra 2016. The Team members were Kapil Singh, Karan Arcot, Noumaan Shariff.

    Workshop on “Unleashing the Future Technologies - 3D Printing” was held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for 4th and 6th semester students on 20th April, 2016. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Vidya Shankar, Managing Director, CADD Center, Bangalore. A Prototype of ‘GEAR’ was 3D printed during the workshop and many more 3D printed models were displayed during the event.

  • Workshop on Entrepreneurship Awareness

    Workshop on ““Entrepreneurship Awareness”:

    The Department of Mechanical Engineering, DSCE organised a 9 days’ workshop on “Entrepreneurship Awareness camp” sponsored by DST. This program was inaugurated on 14th March, 2016. Dr. R. Keshavamurthy, Professor and HOD welcomed the gathering for the inaugural event. Dr. C. P. S. Prakash, Principal, highlighted the importance of this program. Mr. Kiran kumar of Second Gear private limited gave an overview of the program contents.

    This program will be conducted in 3 slots of 3 days’ duration each, covering all the 8th semester students, during 14th to 30th March 2016. The program covers identifying strength and weakness of individual students, groups, generation of business ideas, selection of one idea, preparation of pilot business plans and presentation of business plans by students.

    The first slot of program was conducted during 14th to 16th March, 2016 and was well received by students. On the last day, there was a fruitful discussion by students with panel members Mr. Pramod G.K. and Mr. Ramachandra, senior faculties from Second Gear private limited.
