  • EXPERT LECTURE ON SOFTWARE AS MEDICAL DEVICE

    EXPERT LECTURE

    The department of Medical Electronics had organized an online expert lecture on 'Software as Medical Device' by Mr. Arun Kohli on 20.05.2020 at 11.00 a.m for the students of 4th semester, 6th semester and 8th semester in association with the student chapter of Instrument Society of India, Department of Medical Electronics, DSCE. Mr. Arun Kohli has 16+ years of experience with Siemens, Cerner and Philips. He is an IIT Madras certified professional on Regulatory requirements for medical devices and IVDs in India, Microsoft certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate. He has played leadership role for establishing quality management system based on standards like ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and ISO 27001 and published an article on Regulatory and Quality Strategy for Digital Health Solutions. He is an Engineering graduate in Computer Science and PG Diploma in Advance Computing. He is currently working as a Consultant in Circularlogic, Bangalore. Mr. Arun Kohli started his session by highlighting how the world is moving towards digital platform. He emphasized on importance of digital connectivity in healthcare. He gave an example of CHAMP app and then discussed about the various process elements in Medical device regulatory (ISO 9001:2015 standard). Mr. Arun Kohli gave a real time example and explained in detail the use of AZURE DevOps software platform. He also emphasized on the importance of testing automation. He discussed about system testing: V model used for software testing. Mr. Arun Kohli also clarified the questions posed by the students on Job opportunities in India, Certification courses that can be taken up by the students, Projects that can be carried out by the students.

    Effectiveness:

    • The talk helped the students to understand the importance of software in the filed of Medical device design, process and testing.
    • The talk focussed mainly on Azure DevOps software platform used for system testing.
    • There was a real time example which explained in detail the use of this platform.
  • ONLINE EXPERT LECTURE ON MEDICAL DEVICES AND REGULATIONS

    EXPERT LECTURE

    The department of Medical Electronics had organized an online expert lecture on 'Medical Devices and Regulations' by Mr. Bhaskar Chikkanna on 28.4.2020 at 3.30 p.m for the students of 4th semester, 6th semester and 8th semester in association with the student chapter of Instrument Society of India, Department of ML, DSCE. Mr. Bhaskar Chikkanna is an alumnus of the Dept. of Medical Electronics at DSCE, Bangalore. He is currently the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Intelligent Ultrasound Ltd, United Kingdom. He has more than nine years of experience in the R&D department. He started off his lecture by giving a description of Medical devices and their categories based on their application in various domains. He then gave a description of the different stages of development of a medical device starting from the idea generation stage to market distribution stage using real time examples. He gave insights on the current quality management systems including the regulations of USA, Europe and India. He also briefed about the Harmonized quality standards which have quality standards based on the different aspects of the functionalities of a medical device such as risk management, electrical safety, usability etc. He also explained the different regulations at three different jurisdictions which include USA, European countries and India and their classifications of medical devices based on the patient’s condition or the complexities of the disease.

    Effectiveness:

    • The lecture helped the students to gain knowledge about the Medical devices and regulations along with the steps included in the development of medical devices in general.
    • The lecture focussed on quality management systems and descriptive knowledge of the regulations in medical devices followed in three different regions of the world and the different classification of medical devices according to the respective regions.
  • ONLINE TECHNICAL TALK ON COMPUTER AIDED DIAGNOSIS SYSTEMS FOR CT IMAGES

    The department of Medical Electronics had organized an online technical talk on 'Computer aided diagnosis systems for CT images' by Mr. Rahul Ramesh on 24.4.2020 at 2.30 p.m for the students of 4th semester, 6th semester and 8th semester in association with the student chapter of Instrument Society of India (ISOI), Department of Medical Electronics, DSCE. Mr. Rahul Ramesh is an alumnus of the Dept. of Medical Electronics at DSCE, Bangalore. He was a research intern at Siemens Healthineers, USA. He initially briefed about the concepts of artificial intelligence, deep learning and the various applications in the field of biomedical imaging for the same. He demonstrated his research on colour image segmentation using artificial intelligence to recognise a wound and to differentiate the skin and a wound using the Pulmonary Emboli detection algorithm. He gave insights on the current COVID-19 pandemic and how artificial intelligence can be used for drug discovery that could save lives during the crises. He also spoke about the wide range of websites that could be used to learn artificial intelligence, including pre-requisites, courses and certifications required and also other resources which would help students in pursuing a career in Artificial Intelligence in healthcare.

    Effectiveness:

    • The lecture helped the students to gain knowledge about the application of artificial intelligence and deep learning with its recent advancements in biomedical imaging systems such as computed tomography (CT).
    • The lecture focussed on analysis of computer aided systems for the imaging systems and how it could compete with the current pandemic as well.

    Ms. Sonal Priyadarshan of 7th semester Medical Electronics has participated in the B.S. Narayan Memorial Volleyball Tournament held from 1st to 4th of October 2019 in BMS College of Engineering and won the 2nd prize.

    Workshop on Chatbot Design

    Workshop was organized on Chatbot Design on 12-10-2019 in association with ISOI student chapter, Medical Electronics Department, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering. The workshop was conducted by Shri. Raghuram Nidagal, Senior engineering manager at Walmart E-commerce. The objective of the workshop was to give practical exposure and hands on training to design chatbot using advanced software tools.

    The students of V Sem visited Sagar Hospital as part of the hospital visit program on 5th, 12th & 26th of September 2019 between 2 to 5 pm. They visited radiology department and were exposed to machines & got the practical knowledge of the working of these machines.

  • Arduino workshop

    Arduino workshop

    A two-day workshop on 'Hardware Interfacing with Arduino' was conducted at the Department of Medical Electronics, DSCE in association with the student chapter of Instrument Society of India on 24.9.2019 and 25.9.2019 for the students of 3rd semester. The workshop focussed on training the participants in interfacing various sensors with the Arduino microcontroller. The students gained exposure to different sensors interfaced with Arduino through practical experiments and projects. The workshop was conducted by two faculty members, Prof. Pushpalatha B G and Prof. Shruthi B of the Department of Medical Electronics. They were assisted by Mr. Bharath Kumar T, Assistant Instructor, Department of ML, DSCE. Dr. Sateesh Kumar, Professor, Department of Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering , DSCE was invited to train the students in interfacing Arduino with Simulink.
