RFID System

DSCE library is automated with RFID technology RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is the latest technology to be used in library theft detection systems. Unlike EM (Electro- Mechanical) and RF (Radio Frequency) systems, which have been used in libraries for decades, RFID-based systems move beyond security to become tracking systems that combine security with more efficient tracking of materials throughout the library, including easier and faster check-out, check-in, inventory and materials handling.

Advantages of RFID

The use of RFID reduces the amount of time required to perform circulation operations. The most significant time savings are attributable to the facts that information can be read from RFID tags much faster than barcodes and that several items in a stack can be read at the same time. The other time savings realized by circulation Staff Members at modest unless the RFID tags replace both the electromechanical security strips or RF tags for theft detection systems.

  • Multiple tags can be read once
  • Tags can be embedded for security reasons
  • Tags can be read without human intervention
  • Ease in performing inventory check – need not remove items for the shelves.
  • Human error is effectively reduced during inventory check
  • Misplaced items could be detected immediately.

BOOK DROP

Book drop station is located at the entrance of the library. This offers unprecedented flexibility and convenience of returning library items at anytime of the day, even when the circulation section is closed.

KEY BENEFITS OF BOOK DROP

The Book Drop Stations can be located any where inside the campus. In our library we have placed at the entrance of the library. Patron is acknowledged by generating an e-mail to the concerned users ID. This system save the time of the readers which fulfills 4th Law of Dr.S.R.Ranganathan, Father of Library Science.
