    Parent-Teacher Meet 2020 (PTM 2020 was conducted on Saturday 30th May, 2020 between 10 am to 11 am for all the semesters of CSE Department. A number of parents interacted with various faculty members of the department through a meeting app and discussed their ward’s academic progress.

    Webinar on “Human Centred Design and Innovative Problem-Solving Techniques in IT Industry” by Shri. Jayakrishnan Divakaran

    Date: 8-5-2020

    Time: 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM

    Attended by: About 80 students and faculty members attended the webinar.

    Problem solving techniques like Systematic Inventive Thinking (SIT), Root Cause Analysis techniques like 5Whys and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) were discussed in this session taking specific examples from the IT industry. This session immensely benefited students to do innovative projects at the same time give them an overview of the industry best practices for innovative and impactful solution development.

    Mr. Jayakrishnan Divakaran has more than 3.5 decades of product especially software development experience in the Defence, Telecom, Industrial, Healthcare and Automotive verticals in varied capacities as Developer, Design Lead, System architect, Director R&D.

    He is a senior member of IEEE and currently a global committee member on Humanitarian Activities in IEEE. His current areas of interest include Innovative Product Development/Human Centred Design, Internet of Things (IoT)/Edge Computing, Data Analytics and Machine Learning (ML)/Deep Learning (DL) Applications.

    Objective: To give insights and motivate students to pursue undergraduate research in Computer Science and its applications.

    Speaker: Dr. Krishnan R,Professor, CSE, DSCE

    The students were provided with an overview of what undergrad research is, definition of key terms, and steps to take to become a strong candidate for it. Information on joining a Lab or Research Group, independent study option, and application tips and handling deadlines were discussed. The students also learned what a research group is, how it functions, and the importance of the group’s culture to a students’ success. Topics like coming up with great research project ideas, finding faculty mentors, and asking for recommendation letters were also discussed.

    Outcome: The event ended with students extremely motivated and equipped to pursue research and the formation of a research club for research paper reading and presentation.

  • Workshop on Introduction to Sparks AR – An Augmented Reality Platform

    Date: Saturday, 29th February

    Venue: 3rd floor, CSE department

    Objective: To introduce students to the Spark AR Studio

    Conducted by ACM Student Chapter Senior Student Members

    Spark AR is an augmented reality platform by Facebook for creating AR effects for mobile cameras. The students were introduced to AR/VR/MR. It was followed by a tutorial on Spark AR. The students learned to implement AR in websites and apps. This was followed by a demonstration of creating AR filters and effects for Instagram stories. Later the students had a discussion on the real-world applications of AR.

    Outcome: Students learned a new technology that they can use in their academic projects, side projects, hackathons, etc.

    Talk on Reinforcement Learning

    The Department of Computer Science & Engineering Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering organized a talk on “Reinforcement Learning” on 8th February 2020 Microprocessor Lab, CSE Block. The talk was delivered by Dr. Krishnan R., Prof. CSE, DSCE and was attended by the faculty of the department including the Head of the Department Dr. Ramesh Babu D R.

    The talk covered the basics of Reinforcement Learning and its applications. This session gave a good insight to the topic and was well received by the research scholars. . The event ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Vindhya Malagi.

    The Department of Computer Science & Engineering Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering organized a talk on “Knowledge Representation, Ontology and OWL” on 22nd February 2020 in Microprocessor Lab, CSE Block. The talk was delivered by Prof. Rashmi S R, Asst. Prof. CSE, DSCE and was attended by the faculty of the department.

    The talk covered the introduction to Artificial Intelligence. Relevance and need for Knowledge Representation and Reasoning was explained along with the use of Ontology as the representation technique and OWL as the Ontology language. The talk ended with an interaction session with the audience.

    As a part of industry collaboration with Google Bangalore, The Google Cloud Computing Foundations (GCCF) faculty workshop was conducted at Christ (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, between December 12 and 14, 2019. The agenda included the module wise talks on cloud computing concepts and labs. This workshop was useful to get insights about various working components in cloud.

    The senior students interaction was organized by the department of CSE on 25th October 2019 for all the students of Computer Science & engineering department. The agenda for the entire session is as follows:

    1. 160 students attended the interaction session from CSE department. After this the students from final year(7th SEM) introduced themselves to 1st year students and started the session and discussed about Ethics and discipline, Placements, Hackathon, MOOCs, Paper publication, Internship, Mini Projects, Student enrolment in innovation labs and Student club activities followed by Q&A session.

    Mini Project Fair

    Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering conducted Mini – Project Fair – A one day mini-project exhibition for the 3rd and 5th semester students.

    The fair was arranged in the department labs between 2pm to 5pm for the 3rd and the 5th semesters on 14/11/2019. Faculty members evaluated the projects. The projects covered subjects like Database Management Systems, Computer Networks, Java and Emerging Technologies.

    Students from 2nd and 3rd year presented their best and demonstrated their project work in batches to the guests and evaluators. Dr. Ramesh Babu D R Vice Principal &HOD, CSE, appreciated the students and the faculty of the department for their efforts.

    Cooperative and Peer Learning

    Mrs Anupama Girish and Mrs Shravya AR, Faculty, Department of Computer Science attended an FDP on “ICT enabled teaching learning program”. A brief information on several tools was given during the training program. As part of peer learning the same was presented in the department on 4/11/2019 thereby sharing the knowledge gained.

    The screencast-o-matic tools are useful to record the desktop screen. Common instructions which needs to be repeated across several set of students can recorded and circulated using this tool. These tools simplify creating, distributing and evaluating assignments.

    Train The Trainer Programme at Automation Anywhere

    In continuation to the BOT lab set up and the conduction of the Botathon in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Automation Anywhere conducted Train The Trainer session from 23rd Sep’19 to 27th Sep’19 at their Bangalore office. Prof. Poornima KS and Prof. Bhavana B R were the representatives from Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering to participate in this session.

    This training program was conducted exclusively for the university partners to provide the opportunity of being Certified RPA trainer under Automation Anywhere.

    IOT Innovation Lab Workshops

    Series of IOT Innovation lab Workshops were conducted by the student lead of the lab, Ashutosh Pandey. The students worked on the BBC Micro:Bit device. They created several simple applications in Microsoft MakeCode and Javascript, to control LEDs, control the accelerometer and gyroscope, radio and display data on a serial monitor among other things.

    The Google cloud career readiness faculty program was conducted at Google office, Bangalore on 27-09-19. This was a daylong event where faculty from various universities across India participated to understand the working of Google Cloud. It was a good opportunity for us to interact with the Google Cloud team about the opportunities for thr students to participate and build their skills to be industry ready. The various career readiness guidelines for students were discussed. The possibility of integration of Cloud Computing course for the undergraduate students of was also discussed.     As a part of the MOU with DSCE and IKC GenNext, representatives from US Universities visited the institution on 27th Sep 2019 and provided information to our students on the admision procedure and their MS programs.

    The Universities which visited were New York University, University of St.Thomas and George Washington University. Among the representatives were Erin Vogt,Associate Director of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions from George Washington University, Dr. Bhabani Misra, Associate Dean University of St. Thomas ,School of Engineering and Wahidah Aziz, Graduate Recruitment Specialist from NYU Tandon School of Engineering. They were accompanied by Ms. Sheela Thygaraj and Ms. Sheryl from IKC.

    Students participants from various departments were more than enthusiastic to enquire about their programs and get information on how to apply to those Universities.

  • Industrial Visit to Nokia

    Industrial Visit to Nokia

    An industrial visit to the Nokia R&D Centre, Bangalore, was organized on the September 5th, 2019 which happened to be the University Day at Nokia and on 12th Oct 2019. The main idea was to disseminate information about the various technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and to show the students the laboratories at Nokia.

    The key note about future networks was given by Mr. Vishnu Ram which was followed by a panel discussion. The rise of 5G and outcomes of future networks were discussed in this session. The sessions following lunch included demonstrations. There was a student project roadshow on augmented reality, mixed reality, Li-Fi, Analytic, AI and ML. The common goal of all the projects was to use the 5G network to make wonders. The students were also given a chance to have a virtual tour to Nokia Chennai Factory. Nokia Chennai plant recently implemented the first 'real-world' Smart Manufacturing application of Industry 4.0 in India leveraging solutions such as Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), connected Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, and Internet of Things to enhance operations and increase productivity. The plant is equipped with cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. From AI to AI-ML in network, the concepts like designing AI in declarative approach were covered.

  • Kickstart Hackathon 2019

    Kickstart Hackathon 2019

    The department of CSE, DSCE endeavors to equip students with the best practices that align with industry needs. Keeping this in mind, it was decided to conduct the ‘Kickstart Hack’ under the aegis of the Mobile and Web Innovation Lab of DSCE. The hackathon is the first among a series of such events, and was held from 20th- 21st September 2019. The hackathon saw participation from over 30 teams across different semesters and streams, and was a resounding success.

    A ‘Pre Hack’ session was conducted a day before the hackathon on 19th September. The hackathon saw all the problem statements being solved, even the research based problems like that of problems in medical imaging, were solved the problem to completion. The participation of the first and second year students was notable. The judging was done by Dr. Arbind Gupta and Mrs Neha Kanodia and the faculty of the college.

    The Programming club of department of Computer Science and Engineering conducted their annual coding competition on September 7th, 2019. The contest was designed on HackerEarth.. The winners were decided by their scores. This was followed by prize distribution.

    FDP on “Department and Individual Faculty Goal Setting

    The Department of CSE, DSCE, conducted a FDP session on 14th Sep, 2019, for all the department faculty members on the topic of Department and Individual Goal Setting – The Basics to Remember.

    Dr. Ramesh Babu D R, HOD, CSE, opened the session by talking about the importance of GOAL SETTING and its significance in becoming a SUCCESSFUL faculty.

    Dr. Krishnan then gave a detailed presentation on the importance of department and individual goal setting and what goes into setting SMART Goals. Some samples on Good and Not-so-Good Goal setting were displayed which helped the faculty in understanding the nuances and do’s and don’ts in Goal Setting. Towards the end, goal sheets were distributed for the participants to improve upon the goals they had set, based on the learning from the presentation.

    The Internship cell of the Department of Computer Science, DSCE “INTERNCUBE” was inaugurated on 7/09/2019. Tina Paul and Ajit G Paul, founder and co-founder of Giftolexia Solutions graced the event. The event started with prayers to the almighty followed by a welcome address. The poster was unveiled by the guests. Internship Portal that was developed by the students was also launched during this day. The students also demonstrated the portal work flow.

    Students who successfully completed Internships shared their experience thus motivating other students to take up Internships.

    The inauguration ceremony of [email protected] ensued on 21st September, 2019. It was attended by students of 1st, 3rd and 5th semester. The chief guest invited to grace us with her presence was Ms. Latha A.Founder KenAble & Former Vice-President, Education & Learning, Infosys, Bangalore Also, the Head of CSE Department Dr. Ramesh Babu, Dr. Amutha, Dr. Krishnan and other faculty from the Department of CSE attended the event.

    As a part of the club, the”Do’s and Dont’s of resume building was conducted for the girl students on 26th Sep 2019 in the department.

    Botathon

    A national level competition was hosted by the Department of CSE, by the name BOTATHON on 8th and 9th of August, 2019. This was the first BOTATHON in India to create software bots.. Out of the 150 selected students, two of our students secured 2nd and 3rd prize by creating bots. 1st runner up (prize: Apple iPad Air) was Mr. Yash N Shah of 5th Semester and 2nd runner up (prize: Apple iPad) was Ms. Nikitha Hakari of 7th Semester.

    Automation Anywhere organized Imagine2019 Bengaluru on 28th & 29th August, 2019. Imagine is Automation Anywhere’s premier customer and partner experience. At Imagine the faculty of CSE, DSCE learnt about the future of business automation and how RPA is automating virtually anything that can be automated. They witnessed how the most progressive companies are using AI and RPA to automate business processes driving greater productivity with higher efficiency in shorter periods of time.

    This Faculty Development program intended to help the faculty members to update themselves with the emerging technologies of “ARTIFICIAL INTELLEGNCE, MACHINE LEARNING AND BLOCK CHAIN TECHNOLOGIES”. 40 Faculty members attended the training. Speakers of the FDP were: Mr. Kanth Lead- Analytics with proficiency in machine learning, visualization and tools for Big Data lifecycle, Data science, deep learning and Mr. Girish Nuli Founder and principal consultant of Antara software, was the Block chain expert.

    Google Cloud Career Readiness program:

    Google launched Google Cloud Career Readiness program to help students prepare for careers in a Cloud-first world. The program mainly aimed for 3rd and 4th year CSE (or related) students. Department of CSE in consultation with Google organized this event called “Google Cloud Study Jams” on 30th July 2019 and 24th August 2019. This was a three hour session conducted for 2 batches consisting of 30 students each, the faculty coordinators.

    A 5-day Faculty Development Program on “Effective Communication in English and Basic Computer Skills was conducted in Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore between 17/6/2019 to 21/6/2019 in the Department of PHYSICS. The program was attended by Ms. Lavanya and Ms. Priya, instructors of CSE DSCE. The program was conducted by Prof. Meena Jagadish, Dr. .Kalpana S Singh, and Prof. Suman M Bangalore. With immense expertise in the field of Effective Communication in English and Basic Computer Skills, Prof. Meena Jagadish, Dr.Kalpana S Singh, and Prof. Suman M covered varied topics along with Hands on Sessions and Assessments over the five days schedule.

    InfyTQ based Foundation Program attended by Faculty of CSE

    Prof. Anupama V P attended the Faculty Readiness/Enablement Workshop organized by Infosys Limited, to enable the faculty on the newly launched InfyTQ portal. This portal has various certification programs intended for the final year and pre-final year students. As a part of pre-work on the following topics, participants were asked to complete the assignments and assessments.

    The Pre-work, Group work and individual presentations were considered as part of the graded certificate issued at the successful completion of FEP.

    FDP ON DATA SCIENCE and DEEP LEARNING at RVCE on 15-07-19 to 26-07-19

    Prof. Muquitha Almas attended AICTE sponsored two week Faculty Development program from 15-07-19 to 26-07-19 organized by RV College Of Engineering, Bangalore. The FDP addressed the various aspects of machine learning starting from the basics of collecting data, preprocessing, plotting and modeling to advanced technology of deep learning including Big data analytics. This course was aimed for teachers and researchers who are teaching various disciplines of science and engineering subjects in colleges or Universities. There were 42 number of participants registered for this program from different universities and colleges. Resource Persons from reputed academic institutions like IIT-B and various industries like Amazon, Cisco and Datahieken having expertise in relevant areas related to the program delivered the lectures in various sessions. This Faculty Development Program fulfilled its prime objective to bring the faculty of different engineering subjects onto one platform to get updated with the advanced technologies like Pig and Hive, Map Reduce, Log Stack, Elastic Search and Kibana.

    5-days training on RPA at UIPath

    A 5-day training program on RPA was attended by the faculty of CSE at BMSCE in association with UIPath from 17/06/2019-21/06/2019. The department of Information Science & Engineering, BMSCE had organized a 5 days training for the faculty on Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in association with UiPath. The aim was to equip the faculty with the world’s most sophisticated Digital Workforce Platform. UiPath is a company specialized in automating business processes, relieving manual intervention. The faculty were trained in various topics of RPA namely data extraction, creating bots, hands-on problems and applications.

  • Inaugartion of BOT lab

    Inaugartion of BOT lab

    As per the MOU signed with Automation Anywhere, the BOT lab has been setup in the department of Computer Science & Engineering. The installation of the Automation Anyhwhere software was done on 5th, April 2019.

    On 8th, April 2019 BOT lab was inaugarated by honourable secretary Sri. Galiswamy and Product Manager of Automation Anywhere Mr. Krishna Raju in the presence of Head of the deparment Dr. Ramesh Babu, faculties and students of CSE.

    Botlab Training:

    Date: From 08/04/2019 to 10/04/2019.

    Venue: BotLab in the Dept. of CSE

    Trainer: Mr. Kapil Raina, Product Trainer, Automation Anywhere.

    No. of students attended: 47

    Agenda: The department of Computer Science & Engineering organized a 3 days training for the students on Robotic Process Automation (RPA) in association with Automation Anywhere. The aim was to equip the students with the world’s most sophisticated Digital Workforce Platform. Automation anywhere is a company specialized in automating business processes and liberating people from manual intervention.
